Friday afternoon World Boxing Council welterweight champion Shawn Porter cut it as close as a boxer can when he shaved two pounds off his already slight frame in less than two hours to make the 147-pound weight limit for his Saturday title defense against Yordenis Ugas.

Boxer Shawn Porter’s Hair Is Cut In An Attempt To Make The 147-pound Weight Limit For His Saturday Fight Against Yordenis Ugas

Following Ugas weighing in at 146.6 pounds, Porter was discovered to be 1.8 pounds over the 147 pound welterweight limit and given two hours to cut the weight by supervising California State Athletic Commission officials.

On-site Fox Sports reporter Heidi Androl has details on what happened over the next 120 minutes – via Twitter:

showtimeshawnp’s father told me they went to a 24-Hr Fitness. He hit the treadmill, mitts, shadowboxed & sauna. #LAtraffic sucked up about half the allotted 2-hours. W/just minutes to spare, he stepped on the scale- still over. He cut his hair to w/ less than a min to spare.

In fact the first time Porter stepped on the scale after the haircut he still remained .2 pounds over the 147-pound limit.

Following the post-haircut fail, and with his time limit for cutting the weight below one minute and counting, Porter finally succeeded on his third try after an exaggerated exhale just prior to his stepping on the scale.

The above short video takes you through the dramatic, second weigh-in by Porter as he barely consummates tomorrow’s nationally-televised welterweight championship fight.
