UPDATE: KCBY-TV reports, “James pleaded not guilty to five misdemeanor counts at an arraignment Wednesday. His next appearance in court is scheduled for March 24.”
Springfield, Oregon, police arrested University of Oregon starting running back LaMichael James at 3 AM this morning on a domestic violence allegation.
James has been booked and is currently at the Lane County Jail having been charged with strangulation, assault and menacing.
I’ve got an email into the Univ. of Oregon for comment on the situation.
Oregon SID Dave Williford told KVAL-TV today, “We don’t know any more than than what’s been reported.”

Meatball!!
Hey, that sounds like a”Joey” comment. (I.e., of the struggling with seventh grade sort.)
To be fair: while you are correct in referencing the UW Huskies — UO has long measured itself by and aspired to be like the UW, in fact the Ducks have had more thugs and dbags on this roster alone than the Huskies have had in twenty years.

I was gonna name my kids LaGeorge, LaStephanie and LaBill, but after seeing all the trouble LaGarrett and LaMichael got into, I think I will lay off the La prefix.

Strangling is a misdemeanor? Hmmmmm. Food for thought, but I suppose if the person actually dies it might then become a felony. The trick is to let go before they expire.. So, if you have a co-worker you really don’t like, but want to avoid serious prison time, it’s an option. You could always claim it was auto-erotic asphyxiation, and you were “helping”. Have a nice day.

These guys have NO IDEA how fortunate they are to be able to do what they love and have a college education too??? Most kids would be walking on cloud 9 to have just one of these opportunities! All they have to do is BEHAVE.

His family must be devastated… So sad. It leaves one to ask, “What could have pushed this fortunate young athlete ‘over-the-edge’ where he would jeopardize his career and life over this action?” My heart goes out to all involved.

Hey Frederick,
Joey Ramone is a rock icon. Idiot. So you swing and miss on that.
The UW is just well known for law breaking all across the nation. Sorry if I hit a nerve but your fanbase encouraged it, so get over yourself.

“We are concerned anytime a student-athlete is mentioned in a police report. We do not condone any behavior that doesn’t meet University standards or our football program’s standards, and we go to great lengths to actively educate our student-athletes regarding appropriate conduct.
“We have the utmost confidence in the local law enforcement authorities to determine the facts in all instances involving our student-athletes, and will reserve further judgment or comment until further information is available.”

So, your ex shows up at your apartment in the wee hours of the morning and starts causing problems. You forcibly remove her and end up in jail?
Just have to wait and see what I happens I guess.

the ducks are sad, there players get so many opportunities and just blow it every time, they don’t deserve a second chance. pleading pac 10 to reinstate a player. they should of known the code of conduct . only you are responsible for your own actions and no one else. kids should learn to appreciate what has been given to them and not take it for granted.

Joey: rocker, retrograde or whatever, you are remedial just like the football icons at Oregon and the reputation of the school, which by every academic measure is at the back of the Pac.
So why did you mention the Huskies anyway? Because you think it has a worse reputation? Are you kidding? UW has a better football reputation as a classier and cleaner program. Perhaps because it has better tradition and a long history of success, and is undoubtedly a better school in a better city.
But really, ask around about what people think about the Ducks. Did you see the SI feature last year of PAC 10 fans votes? Oregon got the prize for being the most obnoxious fan base. And thanks in some part to the events of the last year, that goes for its reputation here on the east coast as well.
All the headlines are criminal arrests, chokings, thefts and punches. These headlines and the national tv bed-crappings to a Boise State team to open the year and an OSU team to end it are all good, eh Joey? Where it is thought of, Oregon is looked at as an over-hyped team of thugs and stoners and an appendage of Nike — at a school full of hippies and.. well, who cares. Not too many.
Rock on man

*sigh* kinda wish we could go back to the way they played in the mid-80’s. yeah, they sucked, but the games were fun to go to; the whole family could go for less than the price of one ticket today. granted the players were not blue-chip athletes, but they played with heart & were good citizens off the field. Aside of the infrequent Chris Miller-esque athlete, individual ducks were unknown outside of the valley.
sadly, it appears my ducks have now reached the national prominence of other such “great” teams as the ‘99/00 Washington Thugskies, ’80s/’90s Miami Thugicanes, or any Neuheisel or Dennis Erickson team, for that matter.
