Lawrence Taylor is a free man tonight after posting $75,000 bond following a night in the Ramapo (NY) town jail on charges of third degree rape of a 16-year-old girl and patronizing a prostitute.
Taylor’s attorney Arthur Aidala said Thursday, “Lawrence Taylor didn’t have consensual sex with anyone last night. He didn’t have sex with anyone. Mr. Taylor is going to fight each and every one of these charges.” Taylor has yet to enter an official plea in the case.
Ramapo Police Chief Peter Brower would not comment today on whether Taylor knew the age of the 16-year-old alleged victim, though he said, “Ignorance is not an excuse to an individual’s age. ”
Despite the fact that Taylor, through his attorney, claimed today that he “didn’t have sex with anyone” on the night in question, forensic evidence gathered by Ramapo police at the hotel room where the alleged victim met Taylor may suggest otherwise.
Ramapo Police Commissioner and Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence revealed to the media today that police found a used condom in the hotel room, and that Taylor told police that he had paid $300 to have sex with the 16-year-old girl.
In addition to the used condom that Ramapo authorities found in Taylor’s hotel room, the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS reports that the NYPD took the alleged victim to a New York City hospital for a rape exam after the alleged incident.
The Ramapo police also reported today that their investigation indicated Taylor had “no involvement in any injury against the victim.” Though if it is proven that Taylor had sex of any kind with the girl, consensual or otherwise, he would be guilty of third degree rape.
The third degree rape charge is a Class E Felony in the state of New York, carrying a maximum prison sentence of four years. Solicitation of a prostitute is a misdemeanor, which could mean up to one year in prison.
With Taylor, through his attorney, denying having any sex on the night in question, it will be interesting to see what the DNA results of the alleged victim’s rape exam and the used condom found in Taylor’s room will be.
