Yeah, none of us would probably know who Danyelle Sargent is if she hadn’t been on the receiving end of Mike Francesa’s gleeful cheap shot a few weeks back. I haven’t confirmed that she’s been officially pulled of NFL sideline duty, if you know something, shoot me an email and I’ll update the post.
(”Psst, Danyelle, Hef’s not dead yet”)
Anyway, she’s apparently got some very cute friends. And she also happens to be in a relationship with a former NBA head coach. More pics and coach’s identity after the jump. Read more…
Danyelle Sargent guested on Dan Patrick’s radio show today to give her side of the story about the Bill Walsh-Mike Singletary interview debacle.
(Clip reposted - for now)
Sargent, who acknowledged that she was nervous about her first NFL sideline reporting gig, said the question she intended to ask Singletary was, “I heard he (Bill Walsh) was one of the first phone calls you made when you decided you wanted to get into coaching. … I didn’t even realize I misspoke. … We did it again and it went fine.”
Amazingly, Sargent didn’t hear about the fallout until she flew into Los Angeles from San Francisco the next day: “I still didn’t know what had happened until the next morning until I got a text message from someone saying, ‘hang in there.’”
She then called the messenger and found out what had happened: “I never saw the clip I tried to avoid the internet like the plague for the 5-6 hours after I found out.” Read more…
Being a sideline reporter isn’t exactly the hardest job in the world, nor is it really that necessary. I mean, when a player gets injured and then heads to the locker room, they show it on the broadcast. There really is no need to go to Suzy Kolber and ask her for news on it when all she is going to say is “He’s gone back to the locker room for further evaluation.” We know, we saw it.
Still, networks know that a nice way to keep that male demographic they cherish so much watching is by putting some eye candy on the screen. It’s why Erin Andrews is so popular, but at least in Erin’s case she actually knows what she’s talking about. The same cannot be said for Fox sideline reporter Danyelle Sargent. She interviewed new San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary before the game - and before Singletary’s epic undressing of Vernon Davis - and let’s see if you can figure out where she went wrong.
