Tim Tucker of the AJC reports that as embarrassing as that might seem, it just got worse. Read more…

Wasted: 14,000 Georgia Football Guides Trashed

What’s a bigger waste then printing 14,000 University of Georgia football media guides? Trashing 14,000 University of Georgia football media guides because of two inaccurate pages.

Tim Tucker of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION reports today that the school, “plans to reprint about 14,000 football media guides to replace references to ousted athletics director Damon Evans. The Bulldogs’ annual media guide, which is distributed to donors and recruits as well as the media, was printed shortly before Evans’ June 30 DUI arrest and subsequent resignation.

Longtime Georgia SID Claude Felton told Tucker that two pages referencing Evans will be changed and that he didn’t know how much the reprint would cost. (Right, wonder if the printers do?!)

Evans’ name will be removed from the athletic-director line in the “general information” section on page 2. And Evans’ bio on page 207 will be replaced with one of Crumley, who was named last week as the interim athletics director.

Felton said there were approximately 21,000 media guides in the original printing, with apparently 7,000 already distributed to donors, media and recruits.

Georgia AD Evans Reportedly Resigns After DUI

Zach Klein of WSB-TV in Atlanta reports early Sunday that Georgia Athletic Director Damon Evans, recently cited for DUI, has resigned.

Damon Evans Police Report DUI Arrest

A source close to the University of Georgia Athletic Department told Channel 2 Sports Director Zach Klein early Sunday that Damon Evans is out as the school’s Athletic Director.

Sources told Klein that UGA President Michael Adams asked for and received Evans resignation. The official announcement would come Monday in Athens.

An unbylined website story from WXIA-TV in Atlanta reported the same shortly after Klein’s story:

Sources close to the matter confirmed to 11Alive News that Damon Evans will resign as athletic director at the University of Georgia.

After the DUI charges were first made public, Evans held a press conference last Thursday in which he gave no indication he would resign. Evans said at the time:

“I talk about setting the tone and setting an example and I failed at that. I sincerely apologize for my actions. I hope you find it your hearts to forgive me. I made a grave, grave mistake. My actions have put a black cloud over our storied program. I have to take a step back and get on track.”

Adams also made no commitment about the future status of the athletic director at that time, instead promising a “full review of the matter” when he got back from vacation.

From the arresting officer’s narrative, Evans admitted that he had consumed three liquor drinks when he was pulled over and said after the officer approached his vehicle, “I am not trying to bribe you but I’m the athletic director of the University of Georgia.”

Other notable excerpts from the narrative:

When the officer told Evans that he was impaired and should not be driving, Evans said, “maybe so.”

The officer reported that during the traffic stop at one point Evans said, “I feel pretty good.” The officer noted Evans then “smiled and laughed for no apparent reason.

The officer described the passenger in the car, 28-year-old Courtney Fuhrman, as “loud and obnoxious.” When the officer arrested Fuhrmann, Evans said, “I have a young lady and she is intoxicated and I’m just trying to get her home. I apologize and don’t want to use my influence but she is trying to protect me.

When Evans was arrested the officer wrote that the Georgia AD “admitted again that he’d been drinking and started crying.” Read more…
