We all know that magazines airbrush the ever living hell out of photos before publishing them in print. That centerfold you’re looking at in PLAYBOY? Yeah, she’s not perfect. They just made her look that way. Still, you can understand why a magazine would want to remove an unsightly mole or maybe even too many freckles, but what exactly is wrong with a tattoo?
(Is Danica’s back tat really that terrible?)
It seems that in the most recent issue of SPORTS ILLUSTRATED’s swimsuit issue, the folks at SI decided to give part-time race care driver and full-time media darling Danica Patrick the Allen Iverson treatment. The folks over at GUNAXIN were kind enough to point out that the tattoo you can see on the small of her back in the photo above, from Danica’s first SI shoot, has magically disappeared.
Here are the photos from the recent SI spread.
Yet, in these older photos, with another from last year’s SI shoot, the tattoo is apparent.
The question is why SPORTS ILLUSTRATED feels the need to edit the tattoo out all of a sudden, as it’s not like it’s grossly oversized or anything offensive. It’s just an American flag morphing into a checkered flag. Whatever the case is, I’m sure you guys will enjoy investigating.

It's an illusion. Her bottom is way down below her waist and her butt is showing in th e FHM pic, in the others it's not. Notice how there's butt crack showing in only that one shot?

I think the tat is airbrushed out to lessen the "tramp stamp" effect. Maybe SI airbrushed it out because DP asked them to. There's still a social class aspect to tattoos. If you got'em you look lower class. Her image & marketing potential as the girl next door who has a speed impulse is hurt by showing the tat. She's beautiful but anymore tats & she'd look like a porn queen.

Maybe Danica had the tattoo taken off by laser removal before the shoot, then had it inked back on after it. Sounds painful & crazy, but it just might work!

If you watch the video on the SI site of her shoot, you'll see that she's added to her tramp stamp quite significantly. They also did some airbrushing of it last year - but not consistently for some reason.

Unless you’re right close to it the tattoo DOES look like a barcode. Maybe it’s so at the slut store she’ll be able to zip right through the checkout. Sorry but a tattoo can make even the classiest woman look like a $20 street hooker. In 15 years Danica will wish she could erase it as easily and cheaply as Sports Illustrated did.
