We’re still a bit surprised that Maria Sharapova was bounced so early from Wimbledon, via a second-round loss to 154th-ranked Alla Kudryavtseva.
Kudrya… er, Alla was certainly excited over defeating her highly-ranked fellow Russian opponent, calling her victory “the best day of my tennis life“.
But as the BBC reports, Alla had a little extra incentive to wisking Maria out of Wimbledon - she didn’t like Sharapova’s outfit.
Instead of sporting her usual titillating tennis dresses, Sharapova opted to hit the court in a tuxedo-styled shirt & shorts, much to the chagrin of many male fans.
And the lads weren’t the only ones to be disappointed with Maria’s choice of clothing. Alla seemed to be so bothered by the new look, that she was determined to make Sharapova’s stay in London a short one:
“It’s very pleasant to beat Maria,” she added. “Why? I don’t like her outfit. She experiments, and I give her credit for that. She’s brave enough to experiment.
“But it’s a little too much of everything. It was one of the motivations to beat her.”
Strange that Kudryavtseva would have such concerns about Sharapova’s outfit. Would she have preferred Maria in one of her more attention-getting get-ups?
Is Alla on her way to becoming the next Martina Navratilona, and not just because of her tennis skills? Does she hope that Maria will also experiment in other ways, too? *Wink, wink.*
We kid, of course. Congrats to Alla - and please get a shorter last name.
