Below is an image of the actual 2010 Ohio State “Certification of Compliance” form signed by Jim Tressel that the school cited in charging him with a major NCAA violation - imperiling his tenure at OSU. Under the Tressel-signed document is an account of the NCAA violations by Tressel that Ohio State noted to the NCAA when suspending the coach for - eventually - five games. The bottom document is the applicable excerpts of the termination clause of Tressel’s current contract.

I have heard that the Tressel signature on this document is a forgery and that OSU had someone else sign it. True?

Tressell is cooked. He is done. Word on the street is Gordon Gee has always wanted to coach tOSU and will step in to see if he can put up 10 wins per year.

If I had a dollar for every occasion or incidence of the NCAA being in violation of itself, it’s lack of commitment to it’s own laws (i.e. cam newton)…. Nebraska recruiting in the 70’s, UCLA recruiting in the 80’s, or even USC prior to Bush….. Darn HOW RICH WOULD I BE !!!! The NCAA enforcement department can kiss my lilly pink BUTT !!! two-faced morons. Besides, their is not ONE thinkg within this incident that is not covered under jurisprudence of US LAW… to include one’s right to dispose of what is RIGHTLY HIS OR HERS…. Dear NCAA if you gave it…then it aint yours, thefore NUNNYABIZZ………..

Don’t you think saying these documents doomed Tressel is a bit of an overstatement? I know you are trolling for hits (and I fell for it) but Gee and Smith knew about all these three documents when they said they supported the coach 100%. What might get him fired is what he said in December to the NCAA which is where I expect them to focus in August. The other issue is he still hasn’t issued a proper apology or acted in any fashion as if he felt he did something wrong. That’s how USC acted and we all know how that worked for them.

Tressel signed a form that he did not know of a violation that occurred during the 2009-2010 academic year. Did not the players sell they’re belongings in 2007 or 2008? So, the player violations are not the reason Tress is being persecuted. He found out about those discretions in 2010, but didn’t report it by 9/13. What if he couldn’t report it for moral reasons? How far back in time does a coach have to go with players not knowing the rules? Maybe as long as they have been on scholarship? I think this nit picky stuff sucks.

I sure hope “Buckskin did not learn toy spell at Ohio State.. Makes all of the Big Ten schools look bad

So I guess this means that not only Tressel should go but then McGee and Smith as well… Hummm yep that would be fair and proper

“Getting rid of Tressell” seems to be a priority with a lot of journalists who figure this is the only wat they can deflate the OSU football power house since most of the teams they support can’t do it on the field. Tressell is still a man of distinction and integrity whose sin is not being willing to turn in his players for what is not a major crime.. the five game suspension is easily a sufficient penality for the size of the offense and the journalists who list “ten likely replacements” are out for personal copy nothing else.

Oh, this is just great!!! One of the best College Football Coaches that Ohio State has had the opportunity to educate and lead these young men is now being tried by the NCAA for not know who to turn to in a situation. I feel that he is being made out to be a “Scapegoat”. This man has made “The Ohio State” football program a program of honesty and dedication. Look at “Woody Hayes era”.
Jim Tressel has turned the Ohio State football program around and there was only one man, Woody Hayes who had it just as rough as him, Jim Tressel.
No one said a damn thing to Bruce or his successor, just Tressel, He knows college football and has the Buckeyes on the verge of being the NO# 1 team of the era. Michigan “Wolverines can’t say a damn thing after they lost their coach who could even come close to giving to “The Ohio State Buckeyes.
Get off this mans ass and let him coach the best damn team in the land!!!!!!!!!!

We have somehow someway evolved into a nation of negative pessimistic whimperers. It is reaching sickening proportions. There’s at least one on every block in America that makes “Bewitched” Gladys Cravitz look like a girl scout. In all walks of lfe, regardless of the venue, public or private, they are fighting and jockeying for the limelight to spew their negativism as loud and long as they can. This multitude of belly achers is led by a cadre of so called journalist who pounce on every developing story with the sole intent of ripping it apart at the first chance. IE: now every headline is Bin Laden was unarmed! And we didn’t observe proper respectful burial procedures! Etc. Etc. Etc. Worst of all, we the people have become addicted to these whinning naysayers. We no longer allow time to savor our triumphant moments as few as they may be. As an older man with a past prestigious life, I know to well from experience, there are situations that come along the way. The higher one is in the decision making heiarchy the more decisions one makes and too often they are made rapidly. How often, I have looked back and wished I had done it differently. Somethings can’t be redone. And somethings resurface only to snowball with time and you anguish knowing that perceptions of others will be completely different from your thoughts and intentions at the time you chose a certain path. In fact you never imagined that a hasty decision you made would become a life changing event to haunt you the rest of your life. Sadly, too often, it is irreversable and you have to ride out the storm. You have made tens of thousands of decisions (we all do in life) and few are mega blunders but we all make our share of them too. That is the position of Tress and he has done an excellent job of attaining the goals and aspirations of the Ohio State athletes, fans and program. Do I believe he would handle it differently if the chance existed? You bet! Am I a fan of this coach? You bet! He has made winning a continued tradition at OSU and in my 60 years has overcome the frequent season ending heartbreaks to the rivals up north. Like it or not, this situation cannot be revisited or changed and the NCAA apparatus is in motion. Changing horses at this time isn’t going to make it go away.

WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO GET TO THE BASKETBALL PLAYERS? IMPOSSIBLE TO THINK THEY OUR NOT INVOLVED TO. THIS IS NOT BS, TOLD IT WAS TRUE..

I really believe all the teams that lost to OSU last year should bring a class action suit against OSU, and Tressel for lost income. By Tressel fielding a team that he knew was in violation of NCAA rules he denied teams like Iowa, PSU etc. at having a chance at a better bowl game and more income.

There is no doubt that Jim Tressel knowingly committed some violations of NCAA rules when he did not report the misconduct of his players when he had the opportunity to do so. He should take the punishment given to him by the NCAA and go back to coaching his football team. I’m a Michigan man through and through and I like nothing better than beating that “team from down there” but you don’t throw out a silver tea service just because it’s a little tarnished. I’ve spoke to not so few OSU faithful who commiserated with me the fact that Rich Rod was a terrible coaching selection for UM, and that it isn’t as much fun beating on a team when the person in charge is a moron (I.E. Earl Bruce). So let’s put away the poison pens, let the accused get his house in order and get back to playing the best damn sport EVER; College Football…jdb

JUST LET IT GO………….GEESE…….NCAA, PERSONALLY, I THINK YOU NEED TO RE-DO YOUR RULES!!! DON’T YOU ALL HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO THAT TO TO WHIP SOMEONE WHEN THEY ARE DOWN…….

Johnny Jaywalker ,
Your response was super.I am 72 yrs old and I have learned from my mistakes which were many. If I could go back and change any of those mistakes I am sure I would but it is not possible so I go on living with those thoughts in mind.
Jim Tressel is good for Ohio State and for college football. The fine and 5 games off are more than enough punishment .Let him get back to what he does best , coach.

It was romoured that one of the former OSU coaches was a regular at Columbus Horse racing tracks, and that he was seen at tracks with one of his star players, on numerous occasions,
of course back then things like that were Hush, Hush! If this was true ,then we all know how the life of that player ended up. Not good. Tressel certainly has never or would never do anything like that to hurt any of his players. Both Woody and him did everything to protect there players during and after their playing days. God Bless Coach Tressel.

It’s tough being a coach.
So many compliance issues.
The NCAA will have their way.
In light of the Jim O’Brien violations, this is serious.
The penalties may be severe enough, that to save the program, they may have to let Tressel go.
Too bad.
He did a lot for O.S.U.

Chip Kelly’s deadline for signing his Certificate of Compliance at Oregon is September 15th which is the NCAA deadline. Note Tressell signed his 2 days before the deadline.
