Olympic Blog: Judo Star Makes Molestation Claim

Olympic sports blog FOURTH PLACE MEDAL reports allegations from USA Judo Olympian Ronda Rousey on her personal Web site and on JUDO FORUM that the Director of Standards and Certification, Fletcher Thornton, has been accused by multiple girls of molestation.

Rousey accuses Thornton of having logged “dozens” of molestation complaints, including police reports. She also claims that American judo referees will not speak against him because he controls their assignments; in a later response, she notes that she’s pleased that “no domestic referees will be officiating my matches for at least a year”.

Rousey goes on to compare the case to Daniel Doyle, a judo instructor caught assaulting underage girls on videotapes he made between 2003 and 2007. He was sentenced to ten years in prison last February. Rousey believes Thornton’s alleged actions are worse than Doyle’s.

Rousey claims to have documentation proving these allegations. Investigations continue into the existence and validity of those documents.
