NCAA Questions Four In Louisiana About Auburn

Monday NCAA investigators descended on Thibodaux, Louisiana, to meet individually with Auburn football recruit Greg Robinson, Robinson’s mother Lydia, Robinson associate Sean Nelson and Robinson’s former Thibodaux High School Coach Dennis Lorio.

NCAA investigating Auburn player recruitment in Thibodaux Louisiana

At issue in those meetings was Robinson’s recruitment by Auburn, which raised red flags after an investigative piece by Thayer Evans at FOXSports.com in early January.

In a private meeting held at Thibodaux high school on Monday, Lorio met with an NCAA investigator and a Thibodaux high school official.

During the meeting Lorio was asked by an NCAA investigator about Auburn’s recruitment of former Thibodaux high school players Trovon Reed and Robinson. More specificially, Lorio was asked about the role Nelson played in the recruitment of both players and the nature of Nelson’s relationship with the Auburn coaching staff.

Also discussed between Lorio and an NCAA investigator was numerous trips Nelson took to Auburn with Reed and Robinson, and an iPhone that Robinson allegedly acquired following a trip to Auburn.

Additionally, Lorio was asked by an NCAA investigator to expound on the following comment he made to Evans in the FOXSports.com piece:

“How did players from Thibodaux, La., become so interested in Auburn?” Lorio asks. “That’s a really good question. Trooper Taylor and Sean Nelson would know.

Taylor is an assistant football coach at Auburn who was involved in the recruitment of Reed and Robinson.

While Auburn’s recruitment of Reed and Robinson was the center of the conversation between Lorio and the NCAA investigator, multiple sources indicate that the NCAA is also focusing its attention on so-called “street agents” like Nelson, with similar NCAA probes currently taking place around the country.

Nelson, Reed and Robinson all denied any impropriety involving Auburn’s recruitment of the two players in Evans’ FOXSports.com piece.

When contacted via email about NCAA representatives being in Thibodaux on Monday, NCAA spokesman Stacey Osburn replied in an email, “The NCAA cannot comment on current, pending or potential investigations.”

B - I’d say chances are high that they at least make a visit to Arkansas. I’d be very, very nervous if I were an Auburn fan right now…this investigation obviously goes beyond Cam Newton’s recruitment.

    Auburn is dirty!

They deal with street agents, through their coaching staff.

    Obviously.

The former THS HC posed an excellent rhetorical question: WHY ARE THIBODAUX FOOTBALL PLAYERS SO INTERESTED IN AUBURN UNIVERSITY?

This cowpattieville campus is turning the heads of many recruits, and its not because of the “toilet paper decorations” at Toomer’s Corner. Auburn will burn again, and they are willing to reap an NC, with asterisk, and garner their 15 minutes of Warholian Fame.

Imagine, Cheezenik Da HC was losing miserably at Iowa St, then he turned it around with ALOT HELP FROM BOOSTERS DRESSED IN ERENGE/BLUE/YELLOAWOOD YELLOW!!!!

I’ve seen Nelson’s Facebook page. Full of “God-talk” about his mentor program one minute, and F-bombs the next. I don’t even have a dog in this hunt, but AU fans should be woefully embarrassed by that in itself. It’s a dis-integration of character, class, & propriety. Fans around the nation are very suprised at the extreme lack of class & propriety some AU fans, players, & coaches have shown. I’m good friends with a former AU player who is quite embarrassed.

Dear current Auburn players and commits:
Start contacting options number 2 and 3.

I knew AU was cheating when, during Chizik’s first recruiting season, only a month after being hired, Auburn started getting commits like Tyric Rollison, Demond Washington, and other highly sought after players, even though AU was coming off a losing year, Chizik had a 5-19 record as a coach and none were from an adjoining state or had previously followed Auburn. Friends it is tough for ANY school to get players to come from far away. Particularly to a school like AU with no great academic traditions or history for greatness in any particular area (other than fielding a professional football team and giving out free grades to jocks). Not even Football. Uh HUH! Cash invovled.

Then, this was confirmed that same summer, when the top 3 RBs in the entire country put Auburn at the top of their list, their favorite. None were from Alabama, none were even from Florida, Tenn, Miss nor Georgia. Not one of the three was from nearby. Then all summer and fall they flew back and forth from places like Arkansas, Texas, and South Carolina. Where did they get the cash to do that every week? What HS kid can afford to do that?

Finally, the next recruiting season, with AU having only an 7-6 year, with Alabama as National Champions, AU outrecruited UA. They continued to get recruits from places where it is usually difficult for the established, great, schools like Notre Dame, OSU, UA, OU and Texas to recruit - that is, in non-adjoining states.

So AU outrecruited the National Champions with kids actually willing to go to school a long way from home to play for a so so program with a so-so record, and a for coach with a losing record. What does that tell you? Players like Cam Newton switching instantaneously from his favorite to a school he just heard of a week before.

A school already known as the Notre Dame of Cheating leading the SEC with 7 major probations and one short of the national record. Now with the revelations coming out of Miss State, we know that they are indeed paying players. We know that he cost more than a scholarship. We know he went to Auburn. His dad admitted to shopping him. Has the NCAA gone nuts. AU belongs in the NFL not college football.

A defense mechanism is something one uses to cope while the world as they know it crumbles around them. Jim S…you idiot… you do realize the “smoke” about Cyrus K is that AUBURN did something recruiting Cyrus that he had to clear with the NCAA and his family is ticked off at The Barn. Whether there is anything to it is another matter, but the “shock” was that he went to Auburn..not that he wound up going to Alabama. Same with Calloway. So even the things you desperately try to throw, boomerang back on your school.

It will all come out in the wash, but it is STUPID for Auburn fans to simply say there is “nothing to it”. You nor any other fan know Troopa and Cheeze are clean, anymore than I know what really happened.

But the FACT is the NCAA is investigating ALL OVER THE PLACE. THAT you cannot deny, even though I’m sure you will try.

Will Michael Dyer and an NCAA visit to Arkansas be next or has that already happened? Oh yeah…NOTHING is happening I forgot. This is all just a glitch in the matrix.

    AUBS, JIM S, AU GRAD.

YOU are continuing the laughing stock AU stands for. THANK YOU for being so ignorant and BLIND to the facts.

MSU/AU - Multiple stories about NCAA investigating AU in Atlanta, LSU and other areas BUT you say it’s MSU and LSU in trouble.

MIAMI, FSU, FL turned you in. Are THEY being investigated by the NCAA? NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT.

TN is about to turn you in. They are being investigated but NOW it’s YOUR TURN.

Think again on Calloway and Kuoandjio. You were never in on him. His HC KNEW he wanted to play with his brother. AU’s coaches didn’t want his/their parents on campus because they knew they would be caught in BS. Guess what! They got caught in BS any way. The NCAA is NOT investigating BAMA.

UGA has a beef with you, too. The NCAA is NOT investigating them.

Your “crack” staff has stomped on too many toes with their rampant and blatant recruiting violations.

ARE YOU SEEING THE CONNECTION? If not, let me spell it out for you since you have your faces between the cheeks of your two pears.

All the schools you say are being investigated by the NCAA have a single connection….AU. Don’t think they are the target. They’re NOT. YOU ARE.

It’s definitely NOT a “GOD THING” that got you your championship. It was MONEY! The same money that Cecil got for shopping his son (Some family love, huh?). The same money that lured so many, NOT HEAVILY RECRUITED UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE PLAYERS, that AU had to spend to get them.

College footballs newest cult is AU and it’s officially called THE BRANCH ALL IN-ian. ROFLMAO!

BEWARE OF YOUR FALSE PROPHETS. God didn’t win you ANYTHING. Chiznik didn’t win you anything. $Cam didn’t win you anything but he and pop used you to get what they want.

When you are left with NOTHING after they are gone, we’ll see just how ALL IN-ian you REALLY are.

And this just drives Auburn Haters, and especially Alabama fans, crazy. They all yell, “How’d they do that? They must’ve cheated!” It has made one Alabama fan so mad and angry that he poisoned the beautiful live oak trees at Auburn’s famous Toomer’s Corner.

Thayer Evans is nothing but a tabloid “journalist”. All, and I mean all, of Evans articles about Auburn have one common trait. They contain no facts or evidence that Auburn has done anything wrong. All of Evans articles about Auburn contain nothing but speculation and innuendo. However, Evans spins his stories to make it look like Auburn has, if fact, done something wrong when no investigation has concluded that and no facts to that effect are in evidence. Evan has an agenda in regards to Auburn and that is not professional journalism.

Auburn successfully recruited two kids out of Louisiana. LSU fans were so upset about this that they called the NCAA to complain. LSU got out recruited by Auburn. Auburn worked harder, tried harder, and sold these kids on coming to Auburn. Auburn won this recruiting battle. Isn’t that the spirit of competition?

If LSU and Alabama and other schools are mad about getting beat by Auburn on the field and in recruiting then buckle your chin straps and do something about it. But don’t call the NCAA and complain like a little sissy.

Guys, Coach Gene Chizik did not mean to ruffle your feathers. Coach Chizik is just making good on a pledge he made to Auburn when he was hired to go anywhere he needed to go to recruit the kind of players he needs to make Auburn successful. Chizik has the audacity to believe that Auburn has the type of football program that the top players in the country would want to play for.

I believe in Auburn and love it.

    War Eagle!

    @28-27 and everyone else really.

I did not really hate AU until their purchase of players became so blatant. I have numerous friends who are AU fans. Not boosters. They don’t attend many games. Just everyday fans who watch games on the tube. Even they know that AU has been buying players for a long time and that people who are with the school, not just rogue boosters, are part of it. It’s just common knowledge. Every AU fan I know has the same attitude - enjoy it until the hammer comes down and hope that it never does. The way the NCAA operates, they very well may never do anything. Flip a coin. But journalists kept the USC stuff alive and the NCAA finally did do something. There is so much smoke here that this story will remain alive as well. You are whistling past the grave yard but, if it makes you feel better, blow away.

AUBURN IS GARBAGE! get a freakin clue! all of you barn fans are so oblivious to all thats going on. Just accept the fact that auburn is crashing and burning. Chizik is a terrible coach. Yall won the NC because of cam newton and cam newton only. Yall had other good players that played well too but without cam newton yall would have lost over half of yalls games. Every school is turning yall in and the truth is coming out. I hope everything auburn gets poisoned just like thos pathetic trees on gay tumors corner. I hope those trees get put in a wood chipper and spread all over every crying auburn fan. I wanna meet the man who poisoned those trees and give him a big ol hug. Oh and you never have and never will beat alabama in recruiting you dimwit. Say bye bye to your fraudulent championship and heisman trophy you bunch of barner bastards

As a LSU Tiger Fan, I hope Auburn gets what it deserves, if any of this is true. I know people say that recruiting in college football is corrupt, and I think it is to a certain extent. But, the actions involving Auburn’s recruitment of players go far beyond the pale. At a minimum, Auburn should lose its NC and have the “death penalty” imposed upon it if any of this turns out to be true. It’s stuff like this that sickens true college football fans.

As a Big 10 fan, I have more respect for The Crimson Tide than I do Auburn. There’s no comparison between the two schools.

While Alabama is loaded with tradition, it’s obvious with the Cam debacle that AU didn’t just “suddenly and miraculously” make it to the top. With so much in the mainstream media about AU being investigated in many areas, it’s become blatantly obvious what got them to the top was cheating. Chizik is not that good of a head coach. Also, how did AU take top recruits from their original dream school in just a couple weeks of contact with recruits while other schools take months to get to know parents, the kids, their habits, their coaches and understand what that kid wants in life….besides AU money.

Auburn fans. Wake up. Get your clue with the stories in the media. You’re giving the rest of the country a fan base to laugh at with your constant pointing of your fingers at other schools. Auburn is the common denominator of all the schools complaining about you. If you think that the NCAA is investigating everyone else, you are really out of touch with reality.

Thank goodness all the other SEC schools aren’t known as cheaters like AU and don’t have fans as ignorant either.

Au6. I got your point beat about Cam and his son-selling poppa. Read this article….if you dare or think you can separate one fact.

There’s a HUGE difference between being declared eligible and being cleared of charges. Cam and dad are NOT cleared. Here’s your PROOF that you asked for to prove it. GET A CLUE because YOU are for FOOL. No one else.

Beware of Cheezy, Troopy and Loopy….your false prophets. Contrary to their statements, it’s NOT a God thing. God didn’t win you ANYTHING. MONEY DID!!!

OH AND Bryant Gumbel will be doing his HBO sports show mid March or first of April. He’s got something to tell AU fans and it won’t be what they “want” to hear. It’ll be eye-awakening and what you “need” to hear.

Get ready to send your TEMPORARY CHAMPIONSHIP/HEISMAN TROPHIES back. You aren’t keeping them.

ROFL! AU will NEVER win an outright championship. With the one’s you “CLAIM”, it looks like you’ll have to change your school logo to *U (asterisk University for those AU fans who aren’t smart enough to understand.

Good Lord some of you AU fans are UNBELIEVABLE! Hey I’ll admit outright I’m an Alabama fan. First, let me say I’m not some ignorant redneck tree-killer (yes that was reprehensible), I’m beginning my 3rd degree and have a successful career.

What is UNBELIEVABLE is how naive, stubborn, and arrogant you are concerning possible investigations and violations! When it was announced back around 2000 that Bama was being investigated, I didn’t put my head in the sand & say “the world is out to get us!” I admitted:
    1) If we cheated we should get punished.
    2) If there are investigations, that means suspicious things have happened and been reported to the extent that governing/officiating bodies are spending $, time, & resources to discover the truth.
    3) We have to admit that if they are investigating it’s possible something happened.
    4) We have to let investigations take their course…and while hoping for the best, must withhold judgment until everything is completed.

But MOST of you AU fans…you can’t admit ANY of that whatsoever. It’s not just Bama fans that notice & are angry about your attitudes. Heck, I’ve got friends calling me from Ohio, Pennsylvania, California, Oregon, Florida, Germany, etc., etc. They cannot believe that you are unwilling to concede any of my 4 points. (they developed those, I did not).

This is not some “bammer conspiracy.” The “REC” is not out to get you. It’s the general lack of propriety you’ve shown concerning anything controversial.

Was there smoke at Alabama in the early 2000’s, HECK YES! And it revealed a FIRE! We got punished, I didn’t complain one bit.

Is there fire at Auburn? Who knows? Maybe there isn’t a spark, and I’m fine with that, I’m not on a witch hunt. But it’s the height of arrogance for you to say there is NO smoke, and to call everyone who coughs a “hater.”

Thank God my rational AU friends can admit this. And yes, they are embarrassed by you.

THIBODAUX – The NCAA questioned former Thibodaux High football coach Dennis Lorio and other individuals earlier this week regarding Auburn’s recruitment of two of his former players, according to online reports on FoxSports.com and USAToday.com.

Two NCAA investigators questioned Lorio for a “couple of hours” about possible recruiting violations involving Trovon Reed and Greg Robinson. He was asked if he believed that Auburn committed NCAA violations during the recruiting process.

Lorio said he believes Auburn committed no violations.

“Do I believe that Auburn has done anything wrong with their recruiting? My answer has been no,” Lorio said during a phone interview on Thursday. “I don’t think there was anything illegally done with their recruiting. I’m not aware of anything.”

Fact…..no money found to have been received, or paid.
Fact # 2……Cecil turned ALL of his financial records over.
fact # 3……AL LOST 1 year of records in the Textbook Scandal (oh, and never in the world’s history have 200 students received free, additional textbooks, and nobody benefitted financially. Idiot.

    Wow! This is unbelievable!

All of this talk and hate and venom. For four months now. All of the national media and news outlets have spent considerable time and attention to investigating and trying to dig up dirt on Auburn. The SEC, the NCAA, the FBI, and others have all been looking into it. And yet, to this day there is not one shred of proof or evidence that Auburn has done anything wrong.

If Auburn has been cheating then they have done a remarkably good job of covering it up.

Are you trying to tell me that an army of professional investigative reporters from the national media are incapable of getting an 18 or 19 year old student athlete to spil the beans and tell them what has been going on?

Are you trying to tell me that the NCAA and the FBI are incapable of discovering these alleged financial transactions?

As a lifelong Auburn fan, I can tell you that if clear documented proof is found that someone with Auburn paid Cam Newton and/or others to play football for Auburn then Auburn ought to be punished and the employees or boosters involved ought to be forever banned from Auburn. However, if all there ever is is just rumor, speculation, and innuendo, then everybody just needs to shut up. Under the kind of heavy investigative pressure that Auburn has been under lately, if Auburn did something wrong I believe it would have already been discovered.

I guess what really bothers me is that everyone, mainly Alabama fans, has already reached a conclusion in their minds that Auburn did something wrong when there is no proof or evidence to that effect.
If I were on trial in a courtroom, I would hate to have these commentors on my jury. They would convict me and send me to jail just based on how they feel and their biases without looking to see if there were any facts to back up their opinions.

How long did it take for the NCAA to act on USC?

Any evidence the NCAA has that comes from law enforcement will not be made public until the related investigations are complete. Further, any evidence the NCAA has will not be made public until their investigation, which is ongoing, is complete.

Again, the NCAA may never do anything but you nor anyone else knows that now. In the meantime, keep whistling past those gravestones and wearing the rose colored glasses.

    Dear 28-27,

I’m not spewing any venom. Heck I’ve got friends who played for AU. Let me tell you from experience as a Bama fan who has watched his team be investigated - 4months is nothing. Many of us thought nothing was happening in the investigations into our program, until something dos happen.

I’m not sitting here hoping you get slammed. I just see a total lack of objectivity from most AU fans. The only AU fan I know who “gets it” is a lawyer friend. Huge AU fan, went to the title game & wished him a good time. Yet, his experience as a level headed lawyer gives him enough objectivity to say, “nothing is over until the book is closed on every investigation & a few years have passed.” Does he believe AU is clean? He’d like to but is withholding full judgment. Is he worried? Well, he goes back & forth b/c he knows there’s a lot of smoke, but he hopes for the best. He wears his BCS title pin & I have no problem with that. And yes he thinks AU fans who refuse to admit there are serious questions surrounding suspicious situations that must be answered, well…he thinks you are the lowest common denominator of the fan base.

    Edit to above post:

“well…he thinks you are the lowest common denominator of the fan base.” should be

“well…he thinks they are the lowest common denominator of the fan base.”

It was certainly not my intention to make a personal attack and I realized the above statement could be read as such.

I do not know Reed or Robinson but I was not suprised they went to Auburn because I worked with a family member of Reeds and he told me Reed had been A fan of Auburn since he was a kid and was looking to go to a school that ran a spead offence.I also can understand Robinson going there to when you look at the depth on LSU’S o-line and the fact that Reed was there.I can not vouch for either guy cuz I don’t know them and as an alumni of THS and a loyal LSU fan I didn’t like to see them go to a rival. But I can understand there decisions and I wish them well.
