The legend of Las Vegas was erected on ceaseless, unconventional promotion, and the buildup to basketball’s biggest bloc party is no different, with gargantuan billboards having been spread over three of the most significant Sin City settlements.
The most striking is Kevin Garnett and Dwight Howard spread across the gigantic geometry of the Luxor hotel:
Next door to the Luxor at the Mandalay Bay resort, which serves as the official host for all-star pregame festivities, is an image of Dwayne Wade shimmering amidst the hotel’s familiar golden, mirrored windows:
The final display is a diagonal bounce pass away, across Las Vegas Blvd., as Tracy McGrady and Gilbert Arenas throw down on thousands of the MGM Grande Hotel and Casino flat panels:
The advertisements are immensely impressive, but there will be one bigger NBA public figure than those towering displays this week: Shaq’s first drive-thru appearance at Burger King on Tropicana Avenue.
