KMPC TO NO LONGER HAVE L.A. PRESENCE: SbB has learned that KMPC-AM will no longer have a local Los Angeles presence beginning Thursday morning. The station will now be 100% branded as Sporting News Radio.

The sound of the station won’t change much, since essentially zero Los Angeles-only shows remained on the station after uber-talent Petros Papadakis escaped the signal-impaired operation.

What a difference a year makes. This time last year, the station was the radio home of the second-most valuable sports radio property in Southern California (besides the Lakers), USC football, and featured several local (and lively) shows. And KMPC was also was generating millions annually in advertising revenue.

But despite those impressive assets, station programmers were unable to coax a single ratings point out of 1540 AM - leading to the eventual demise of local programming.

Now KMPC will exist only as an anonymous outlet for Sporting News Radio. And those employed by the local station will be shown the door in short order.
