Ogden Takes Potshot At Phillips On His Way Out

Jonathan Ogden is off the field for good, as the Ravens lineman announced his retirement on Thursday. The oversized offensive tackle spent all 12 of his NFL seasons in Baltimore, starting in 176 games for the Birds.

Jonathan Ogden Baltimore Ravens retirement

During the press conference of his official announcement, as he thanked teammates & team officials, Odgen managed to take a little sideswipe at a problem player who could have taken his place:

“Another man I want to thank, (Ravens GM) Ozzie Newsome, for bringing me in here over Lawrence Phillips. I think that was a good decision, still to this day.”

Then Jonathan & members of the media shared a hearty laugh. Ha-ha!

Odgen was referring to the 1996 NFL Draft, where the Ravens decided to spend their first-round pick on the UCLA lineman instead of the Nebraska running back.

Lawrence Phillips

Considering Lawrence’s long list of problems with the law, it’s hard to argue with Jonathan. Then again, standing at 6′ 9″, 345 pounds, who would want to argue with Mr. Ogden about anything?

Odgen also thanked Art Modell, which is sure to give Cleveland Browns fans a hearty (and hateful) laugh.
