Dan Caesar of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH has an update on Joe Buck and his burgeoning talk show career. If the Fox play-by-play titan does dive into late night TV, it likely won’t be on Rupert Murdoch’s network.
Buck recently called it quits on calling local Cardinals games, and has been working with former SNL writer Matt Piedmont on pitching a pilot to other major & cable networks. So, why isn’t Joe jiving with his current employer?
Buck explains that his vision for late-night entertainment goes beyond just sitting and chatting with guests. He hopes for his program to include skits, questions from the audience, and other “free-flowing elements” to differ from a normal Letterman/Leno gabfest:
“We’ve had interest from a number of networks, but it’s not going to be on Fox as it now stands. They want me in a more traditional talk-show (format). What we did felt good, and I’d like to try that vein of the show and not do the same old same old.”
And Joe should be a bit leery about doing late nights on Fox, considering the network’s last attempt was the “The Chevy Chase Show“.
