Here’s an incredible photo taken by University of Michigan student photographer Sam Wolson today:
(Confirmed: Denard ain’t no poser)
The photo, posted on the student MICHIGAN DAILY’s website, captured part of Heisman Trophy hopeful Denard Robinson’s staggering 502-yard performance against Notre Dame.
Robinson has to be considered the leading early candidate for college football’s top individual award after lighting up the Irish Saturday for 258 rushing yards and 244 passing yards in a 28-24 win at Notre Dame Stadium.
Last week Robinson shredded UConn for 398 personal yards, including 197 on the ground and a 19-for-22 passing performance in Michigan’s 30-10 victory over the Huskies at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.
With UMass and Bowling Green next up on the Wolverines’ schedule, one shudders to think the stats Robinson will amass if he plays more than a half in each game.
If Robinson does follow through and win the Heisman Trophy, I have a sneaking feeling this won’t be the last you see of this photo.

That was just A-MAZING

That’s a great photo, but let’s not break out the anointing oil just yet.

They don’t give the Heisman to freshman.

“They don’t give the Heisman to freshman.”
Good thing he’s a sophomore.
11:18 pm on September 11th, 2010
They do give the Heisman to badasses, though. And yes, he is a sophomore.

The ND player’s just lucky his number’s not showing and his face is being smashed by Denard’s hand because if Denard goes on to have an amazing season this photo might go down in history.

Holy crap! What kind of yardage will he roll up against Minnesota? A thousand!

“Holy crap! What kind of yardage will he roll up against Minnesota? A thousand!”
None this year, Michigan doesn’t play Minnesota this year.

Robinson for president!!!

They don’t let teams that will win one game in the conference again have a player that wins the heisman. Now that there is tape on the system he will be shut down and probably hurt in a couple of weeks. He is good but that is a horrible team that loses if Crist is healthy all game.
7:47 am on September 12th, 2010
Still waiting for this to happen against the power defenses in the Big-10. It appears that RR hasn’t discovered that he’s no longer in the BigEast, (I know ND is independent but only in football)
7:50 am on September 12th, 2010
Andrew Thomas…your comments are spoken like a whiney ND fan. Yes, the D needs some help, but the only glaring weakness for Michigan is the kicking and punting game. Get that corrected and this game would not have even been close. Michigan has two very good back up QB’s. If/when Crist goes down this season, ND will not win another game. Grab yourself a tissue and cry with some of your own kind. GO BLUE!
7:50 am on September 12th, 2010
the Notre Dame player in question is Manti Tau.
8:07 am on September 12th, 2010
TrueBlue: take it easy dude, Your team had to come from behind in the closing minutes to beat ND (WITHOUT Crist)… When DR encounters a REAL defense instead of the BigE version (Iowa, Wiscy, PS, Bucks) we’ll see how good this team is.
Remember 2009? 4-0 then 1-7 was it?
8:30 am on September 12th, 2010
the Notre Dame player in question is Manti Tau. AND Tau tackled him for a loss on that play.
I simply hope the kid doesn’t get injured.
8:51 am on September 12th, 2010
That play was a 2 yard loss, he didn’t break the tackle…
9:10 am on September 12th, 2010
Not a ND fan at all. In fact I was happy that they beat ND, but are you not the same Michigan fans that had Tate as a Heisman winner after a few weeks last year…….followed by him going 1-7.
Lets not get too excited about beating a 6-6 ND team that switched to a 3-4 with a new coaching staff. And a ND team with a walk on who only is on the team because of his last name.
Enjoy losing your seventh in a row in Columbus and 9 of the last 10. Just happy to see you are not bringing the conference down any more, but not sure it will continue.

robinson is good, but it takes a “team” to win. Michigan is best!!! They all deserve credit, quit making it sound like he did it all by himself.
11:24 am on September 12th, 2010
Great pic…but Manti Te’o made the tackle on this play…behind the line of scrimmage.

Great Photo!

Everyone needs to relax a bit. Michigan has a long way to go. The defensive backs need a lot of work as does the kicking game. But, you have to admit ,DR is very impressive. Only time will tell how good this team can be( Big 10 play). Hopefully DR can stay healthy. If he does, it should be an exciting season.

“If Robinson does follow through and win the Heisman Trophy…”
I’m a big ‘M’ fan, but there is a whole lot of “following through” for Denard to do. Agreed, Riz. As banged up as he was after Saturday, he has mountains to climb ahead against the punishing defenses of the Big 10.
6:11 pm on September 12th, 2010
Is there a way to purchase this picture?
7:07 pm on September 12th, 2010
Who do they play the next couple weeks? Lafeyette girls academy and new york culinary?
maybe someday they’ll have the balls to schedule someone tough out of conference
8:14 pm on September 12th, 2010
We are actually trying to schedule Alabama for the 2012 season. Denard is amazing, and not over-rated. Is the Michigan team over-rated? Probably.
10:02 pm on September 12th, 2010
The heisman joke begins. Big 2 (little
has a player that has a great day and he is a lock to be a heisman finalist. Unbelievable how much bias there is for northern schools. Alabama dominates for years and gets its first heisman last year. Has michigan ever won a natl. title and has about 30 heismans, right.
10:09 pm on September 12th, 2010
Same for the butteyes. Bama has for years been trying to schedule mich. and ohio st. and they continue to dodge them.
10:50 pm on September 12th, 2010
Ohio state dodging? didn’t they just take on the #1 team in the country 4 of the past 5 years? (uscx2 texasx2)
Even if Mich scheduled Bama, I figure they’ll somehow get out of playing at Bama.
This is how RickRod operates. At west virginny, he scheduled patsies, now that he’s gone,
wv is looking for better early games. after getting beat up by utah, app st, oregon, etc
early season, they’ve pretty much cleared their schedule of any risk. Rich rod is prolly sitting
down with Bama officials rt now suggesting they play once in michigan, and the 2nd game in
ford field and calling it a neutral location. lol
12:19 am on September 13th, 2010
robinson has looked beyond great these past two weeks he simply has put the team on his back an its nice to see michigan starting to come back to the national scene but they still have to win BIG TEN confernce games first. great start last year an weak finish will this be the same team?we know they are finding their stride on offense but when is their defense gonna step up thats the bigger question an ps im not even a michigan fan
8:50 am on September 13th, 2010
Robinson is the best player in the country on a team that looks MAC caliber without him. If Christ is in that game the whole time, ND wins going away. (With Christ ND outscored MU 24-7)
12:18 pm on September 13th, 2010
Don’t you guys remember that Tate was in the same position last year. He was a Heisman candidate after he won 4 games last year. Well where is Tate now? O yeah, 3 string QB. So you have 2 Heisman candidates on a team that has 0 championships with these kids, and have Lil’ Wayne as you QB. Wait till you play some real teams.
2:03 pm on September 13th, 2010
yes its been impressive against 2 weak teams…. However he will not rack up the yards on OHIO STATE or IOWA’S defense. I only hope he goes to class and doesnt hang out with Ol’ TATEr nuts who skipped classes. Its only a matter of time before they all break film down and silence the “MEAT CHICKEN” fans. Then DR becomes an, “Oh yeah that guy ! Whatever happened to him?”
6:26 pm on September 13th, 2010
I don’t know how you can say that Michigan has played 2 weak teams to start the season, when U Con won 8 games the previous year and their Bowl game and returned the majority of their starters and then in week 2 beat the second winningest program in college football history in South Bend. Granted, we are in the same position as last year, but when you look at the history of Michigan, (130 yrs), at some point you are going to have a bad year or two, but you don’t become the winningest program in the history of the sport by failing to win. And if you look at last year’s schedule, They were in games against Mich St. and Iowa and had chances to win late. you take away a couple of turnovers and last year could be very differrent
I agree that Denard can’t keep getting 25 carries and make it through the Big Ten Schedule healthy, but Tate has a year of experience running the offense and Devin is ahead of where Denard was last year. These next couple of weeks should give the backups a little more experience and Denard a little rest.

Things Tate Forcier has not done:
Break off the longest run in Notre Dame Stadium history
Rush for over two hundred yards
Account for over five hundred total yards
Stop comparing the two
11:51 am on September 14th, 2010
I CAN compare the two. How many championships have they won. ZERO!!! Why does Michigan fans always hyped up after a couple games? You guys haven’t won anything since ‘97. That was 13 years ago. Jonny made a good point, you will have some losing years but for some reason most Michigan fans don’t think losing should happen to them. Why are they so special? Michigan fans are arrogant and oblivious about common sense. Michigan State fans never act like this. O yeah, where is Sam McGuffie? Wasn’t he suppose to be the savior? And when is the last time Michigan beat State in basketball or football? Hell, you say it’s the greatest rivalry of all time and Ohio State, and OSU have beat you the last 6 years. Doesn’t the other team have to win a couple games for it to be a rivalry? MICHIGAN FOOTBALL BLOWS!!!

Hey HateMax, chill out man. You’re making yourself look like a fool here with the “I figure they’ll….” and the “Rich rod is prolly….” First of, it’s spelled “probably” and, secondly, I’m not sure who you think you are that can assume so many things. Or wait, do you have an inside source? My guess is no. Your “speculation” game is lame man. You can’t even spell and you put little “lol’s” on the end of your posts. You’re just a simple hater. To be totally honest, I could care either way simply because I’m a Nebraska fan and even I can see through your BS. Rich Rodriguez beat tough teams in bowl games, but not just bowl games, BCS bowl games (see Georgia in 2005, Georgia Tech when they were really good in 2006, and let’s face it: the 2007 WVU team that beat Oklahoma was his too). Maybe Michigan and Denard are the real deal, maybe they’re not. Just wait and see. Let the season play out before you “speculate.”
10:18 am on October 1st, 2010
Play somebody worth playing and see if he gets the same kind of numbers, then it’s his for the taking. If not don’t think he gets it. Great photo! Go Bama! Ingram is the man!
6:50 pm on October 1st, 2010
Anyone can see that Denard Robinson is special, and he’s an outright blast to watch. Takes a team to win games, and takes a defense to win championships. How does that take away from Robinson? He’s amazing.
