AOL’s Michael David Smith:

Rogers connected with Fedor early and made him bleed from the nose, and he more than acquitted himself in the fight, getting control of Fedor on the ground and looking better against Fedor than any opponent has in the last few years.

But there’s only one Fedor, and in the second round, he showed why he’s the greatest ever, leveling Rogers with a brutal right hand and then a couple more punches on the ground before referee Big John McCarthy stepped in to save Rogers.

Best was attended to by doctors for a prolonged period on the field before being immobilized on a stretcher.

The AP reports:

Best’s helmet came off on impact. He vaulted into the air over safety Cameron Collins. Paramedics removed his jersey and Best was on oxygen when carted away.

Not a good sign. Hopefully oxygen is precautionary.

(Facemask penalty would’ve negated Northwestern subsequent touchdown)

Video of the play shows Northwestern player Corey Wootton rolling onto the back of Stanzi’s right lower leg. But just before Stanzi went down, the quarterback appeared to have his head wrenched backwards by the right hand of Northwestern defensive tackle Jack DiNardo.

You won’t find this club in a reconditioned room hidden in some grimy Hollywood back alley. The space resides in Staples Center, where nightclub mogul Sam Nazarian bought out eight upper level suites for $1M to create the venue. A little background from SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL:

In its first year the lounge will be open to courtside seat holders and suite owners. As part of the deal, AEG sold a block of tickets for Lakers, Clippers and Kings games and other events to SBE to distribute to its best customers to hang out at the new club, said Lee Zeidman, the arena’s executive vice president and general manager.

So did Adande give the club the usual ‘this is cool!‘ review? To his credit, no. Some of that probably had to do with club management not giving him an automatic pass. But I’m guessing that’s just the kind of exclusivity mystique Nazarian wants fostered to lure more a-listed high rollers. (more…)

Anthony Avalos attended Yuma High School in Arizona as a senior this year; dated high school chicks and even tried out for the basketball team. One problem: He actually graduated from high school in Florida in 2005. Avalos is really 22 years old, and the whole thing was a scam to try and get a basketball scholarship. How did he get caught?
