Favre’s Agent Says Brett Wants To Be a Panther

As the Brett Favre rumor carousel turns, PRO FOOTBALL TALK spins up a possible destination for the ex-Packers QB if Green Bay doesn’t want him back - the Carolina Panthers.

PFT reports that Favre’s agent, James “Bus” Cook, has purportedly told people in private that his star client wouldn’t mind suiting up for the NFC South franchise. However, there are no specific reasons given why Brett would want to continue his NFL career in Charlotte.

Favre has no connections to the current coaching staff, except QB coach Mike McCoy, who was once on the Packers practice squad back in 1995.

It could be argued that Brett would like to play closer to his Mississippi home. However, New Orleans & Atlanta are much closer than Carolina, and each team has their questions at QB. On the other hand, Brett’s been there & done that with the Falcons, and he might not want to share the Saints spotlight with Reggie Bush.

Some PFT commentators point out that Brett might be trying to follow in the footsteps of former Packers teammate Reggie White, who after a year of retirement from his Green Bay days signed up with the Panthers.

And, of course, Reggie helped Brett get his big break on the silver screen (featuring a nice cameo from Mike Holmgren):

At this point, why doesn’t Favre just sign a contract with every NFL team? He can pick one game to play every Sunday, and spend each half under each team’s center. Then he’ll catch a red-eye for that week’s Monday Night Football destination and repeat the process. He should be able to cover all 32 teams within the 17-week schedule.
