F1’s Bernie Ecclestone Defends Hitler In Interview

American sports has a good many polarizing figures that sports fans love to hate. Praising names like George Steinbrenner, Mike Krzyzewski, Bud Selig, or Bill Wirtz at a sports bar is a good way to start a fight in many cities, for many different reasons. You’ve got contempt for fans (Wirtz), dunderheaded management (Selig), annoying self-righteousness (Coach K), and unbridled arrogance (Steinbrenner).

Formula 1 Bernie Ecclestone

But what if you could roll all those loathesome qualities up into a single person and add a dash of racism and a spoonful of admiration for Hitler? If such a terrible person seems like someone only seen in the movies, then you haven’t heard of Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone. No, not the F1 boss who likes Nazi hooker orgies - the other one.

Ecclestone, who once said that women should always wear white “to fit in with all the other domestic appliances,” lauded Hitler in a recent interview, according to CBS SPORTS:

“In a lot of ways, terrible to say this I suppose, but apart from the fact that Hitler got taken away and persuaded to do things that I have no idea whether he wanted to do or not, he was in the way that he could command a lot of people, able to get things done,” Ecclestone said.

Even ignoring the fact that Ecclestone has a shockingly bad knowledge of modern history (who won World War II again, Bernie?), it’s impossible to fathom how stupid someone must be to publicly make such comments. Just for good measure, he also added that democracy “hasn’t done a lot of good.”

Then again, this is coming from a man so hated that his sport’s top teams were willing to destroy the sport just to get rid of him and his right-hand man, Max Mosley.  So next time you, Mr. or Ms. American Sports Fan, get upset when contemplating the boobs in charge of your favorite teams and sports, don’t forget to thank your Maker that you don’t have to deal with that.
