WYNALDA DISSES ROME AGAIN; MUST HATE BEING ON TV: Current ABC/ESPN soccer broadcaster Eric Wynalda was suspended for the opening ABC MLS broadcast this season (one of only two ABC soccer telecasts this year) after he publicly said Jim Rome can “suck my d—.”
“And he should be very afraid, because I’m the kind of guy, if I get too many drinks in me, I will club his ass. I’ve been on with Jim Rome, and I said, ‘Let me get this straight, you’re more impressed with water polo???’”
Apparently barely saving his job with a limp apology after getting his head chopped off by Rome on- and off-air a month ago wasn’t enough to prevent Wynalda from making another apparent disparaging remark about Rome - this time on DC morning radio show.
The AWFUL ANNOUNCING sports blog reports today that Wynalda guested on WWDC-FM’s “Eliot in the Morning Show” in DC and was asked about Rome telling the former soccer star that he preferred Water Polo over Footie.
The blog paraphrases (must’ve been fumbling for change for a McGriddle) Wynalda’s ever-witty response: “Yeah that’s why I call him Kim Rome now. He’d rather watch a bunch of guys in speedos.”
Wynalda really must not want to work in the broadcasting field.
