Henry Abbott of ESPN’s TRUE HOOP notices a tasty trend when it comes to NBA players putting on the feedbag. More often than not, the big guys like to chow down at the Cheesecake Factory.
What is it about the restaurant chain that’s such a big hit with the NBA crowd? And is the popularity really true?
Well, Abbott did some research, and found Gilbert Arenas, Darius Miles, J.J. Reddick and Lindsey Hunter among those hoopsters that always have a hankering for the C-Fac.
Abbott theorizes it’s the big portions and familiar settings that draw in the Association crowd. And it’s not just the pro ballers that covet the Cheesecake Factory.
Arizona coach Lute Olson once used the restaurant in punishment for his team’s poor play. In 2004, after a tough loss to USC, the Wildcats coach showed his unhappiness by canceling a team outing to the eatery. Then-player Mustafa Shakur knew how badly they performed, saying, “We didn’t deserve to eat at Cheesecake Factory, playing like that.”
Now that’s harsh.
