Canseco ‘Detained’ at U.S. Border For Illegal Drug

David Vassegh of KLAC-AM in Los Angeles reports today that Jose Canseco was recently detained at the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego by Federal authorities for alleged possession of a drug that requires a prescription in the U.S.

(Why not just use that to “maintain and restore testicular size”?)

Canseco will appear in Federal Court to address the charge on Tuesday.

If true, the allegation is more than a little embarrassing for Canseco, considering the function of the drug he was caught with.

Canseco was allegedly found to have the drug HCG, which is short for Human chorionic gonadotropin.

Wikipedia notes, “In males, hCG mimics L H and helps restore and maintain testosterone production in the testes. As such, hCG is commonly used during and after steroid cycles to maintain and restore testicular size as well as endogenous testosterone production. However, if hCG is used for too long and in too high a dose, the resulting rise in natural testosterone will eventually inhibit its own production via negative feedback on the hypothalamus and pituitary.

Safe to assume Kellen Winslow, Jr. won’t be ordering up a dose anytime soon.

UPDATE: Vassegh now has his report on the web.
