Appalachian State And Smaller Schools Now AP Poll Eligible

A.P. HAPPY TO LET APP STATE APPLY FOR VOTES A-PLENTY: If Steve Spurrier can put Duke into the Top 25, why can’t Appalachian State get some votes? Well, now they can:

Duke Appalachian State football

CBS SPORTS reports that the Associated Press will now allow lower-division schools to be eligible for inclusion in their top 25 college football poll.

The decision came fresh & hot off the heels of the 1-AA* Mountaineers’ manhandling of Michigan last weekend, as many voters wanted to include App State in recognition of their Big House Bruising.

Now the pride & joy of Boone, NC, can slide right in to polldom as early as next week, provided they take care of business against Division II Lenoir-Rhyne.

Montana State Colorado football

But coach Jerry Moore & Co. need to be cautious. Last year, 1-AA* Montana State began the season with a 19-10 shocker over Big 12 member Colorado, only to lose the following week to Division II Chadron State. So, don’t be ready to scan the ‘also receiving votes’ list just yet.

(*-Yes, we know the NCAA now officially uses “Football Championship Subdivision”. And Kleenex is officially supposed to be called “tissue paper”.)
